Microsoft CEO Ballmer to Retire VOA News Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced Friday that he will retire in the next 12 months, once a successor has been found. In a news release, Microsoft said, "Ballmer will continue as CEO and will lead Microsoft through the next steps of its transformation to a devices and services company." "There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time," Ballmer said in a statement. "We have embarked on a new strategy, with a new organization. "My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company's transformation to a devices and services company," Ballmer said. "We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction." Microsoft's board of directors has appointed a special committee to direct the process of finding a successor, saying they will consider internal and external candidates. The news of Ballmer's retirement sent Microsoft shares up 9 percent. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/microsoft-balmer/1735552.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/microsoft-balmer/1735552.html
