Brazil Asks US to Stop Violating Sovereignty by VOA News Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota says the United States must stop practices that he says violate Brazil's sovereignty. Patriota met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Brasilia Tuesday to talk about the National Security Agency's surveillance of telephone and Internet traffic. Brazil is one of several foreign countries where the NSA spies on communications as part of the war on terrorism Patriota said the spying casts a shadow over U.S. - Brazilian cooperation and trust. He hinted that Brazil is not satisfied with the explanations offered by the United States. Kerry said Brazil is owed answers and will get them. He said the NSA program has helped protect Americans and Brazilians. He defended it as legal and and being under government oversight.
