Snowden Case to Come Up in US-Russia Summit U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to ask Russia to turn over national security information leaker Edward Snowden when he meets with his Russian counterpart Friday. Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will hold talks in Washington with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The men are likely to discuss a range of issues of importance to both nations, including Syria, global security and human rights. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says the Snowden case will certainly be part of the conversation. Russia`s decision to grant Snowden asylum, allowing him to avoid trial, angered the United States. It was one of several issues that led President Barack Obama to cancel next month`s Moscow summit with President Vladimir Putin. But Psaki says there is still much to discuss with the Russians, including Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran and efforts to organize an international peace conference on Syria. Snowden, a former intelligence contractor, admitted leaking details of a secret National Security Agency surveillance program that gathers information on telephone calls and Internet use. Snowden says U.S. citizens have the right to know their government is spying on them. The NSA says the program stopped several terrorist plots. Snowden fled to Hong Kong, then to Russia, to avoid prosecution. Russia and the United States have disagreed recently about a number of issues, including American adoptions of Russian children and a proposed missile defense system the U.S. wants to place in Europe. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/snowden-case-to-come-up-in-usrussia-s ummit/1726492.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/snowden-case-to-come-up-in-usrussia-summit/1726492.html
