Suspected Drone Strike Kills 6 in Yemen by VOA News A suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least six alleged al-Qaida militants in central Yemen, continuing a string of attacks amid terror threat warnings by the United States and counterterrorism operations by Yemeni authorities. Officials say the drone strike Thursday targeted a vehicle in Marib province. It is the sixth drone strike in Yemen in less than two weeks. The U.S. has repeatedly used drone strikes in recent years to target members of al-Qaida. Yemeni authorities said Wednesday they had foiled an al-Qaida plot to seize two southern cities and storm strategic oil and gas facilities nearby. They said the plot involved kidnapping or killing foreigners working there. The United States shut diplomatic missions across the Middle East and Africa late last week because of the threat of potential attacks. This week, the U.S. State Department ordered its non-essential staff to leave Yemen, relocating them to the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt, Germany. ''U.S. President Barack Obama said Wednesday during a speech to U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, California that the nation is taking the threats seriously, but will not back down. "As for these extremists, here's what those who would cowardly attack our civilians don't get. The United States is never going to retreat from the world. We don't get terrorized," the president affirmed. ''The United States has shut down 19 embassies and consulates through Saturday, including the U.S. Embassy in Sana'a. Those posts are in Amman, Cairo, Sana'a, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali, and Port Louis. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/suspected-drone-strike-kills-6-in-yem en/1725755.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/suspected-drone-strike-kills-6-in-yemen/1725755.html
