Pakistani Security Forces on Alert for Attack Pakistani security forces are on high alert for a potential militant attack on high-profile targets in the capital, Islamabad. Authorities tightened security throughout the city on Sunday and sent Pakistani air force and navy commandos into the adjacent Margalla Hills area to search for militants behind the suspected plot. Officials said intelligence warnings of a possible attack prompted the alert. Pakistan police told local media the security operation will continue for several days. Militants carried out a major assault on a Pakistani prison in the northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan last week, freeing about 250 prisoners, including fellow fighters. It is not clear if the prison break contributed to the security threat in Islamabad. The United States also has warned of a potential terrorist strike in or emanating from the Arabian Gulf in the coming weeks. It said that threat prompted it to close more than 20 diplomatic missions in Muslim-majority nations in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia on Sunday as a precaution. Some of those missions re-opened on Monday. U.S. diplomatic compounds in Pakistan were not included in the closures. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/pakistani-security-forces-on-alert-fo r-attack/1723569.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/pakistani-security-forces-on-alert-for-attack/1723569.html
