Clashes Between Iraqi Forces, Sunni Demonstrators Kill 26 Clashes between Iraqi security forces and Sunni demonstrators have killed at least 26 people and wounded dozens more. Local and military officials say the fighting Tuesday in Hawija, near Kirkuk, began when security forces tried to arrest people, and that at least two soldiers are among the dead. U.N. envoy Martin Kobler had called for calm in the area. In a statement Monday, he urged security forces to exercise restraint and for protesters to preserve peaceful demonstrations. Members of Iraq`s Sunni community have protested for months against the Shi`ite led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Sunni activists want Mr. Maliki to step down, accusing the government of arbitrarily arresting Sunni opponents and holding them without charges. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/clashes-between-iraqi-forces-sunni-de monstrators-kill-26/1646960.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/clashes-between-iraqi-forces-sunni-demonstrators-kill-26/1646960.html
