                      6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits China

   A magnitude 6.9 earthquake has struck the western Chinese region of
   Sichuan.
   The U.S. Geological Survey says Saturday`s quake was centered 115
   kilometers northwest of the town of Leshan.
   It occurred at a depth of 16.4 kilometers below the surface.
   There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
   A 6.9 magnitude quake is capable of causing severe damage.
