                     Obama Urges Congress to Act on Economy

   U.S. President Barack Obama says the Congress is standing in the way of
   proposals to create jobs, boost the economy and strengthen the middle
   class.
   During his weekly address Saturday, Obama said Republicans in Congress
   have voted down a bill to help military veterans find work.  He also
   said they "dragged their feet" on other bills to assist farmers and
   responsible homeowners before leaving Washington on a break.
   The president says the bills have bipartisan support and he urged
   citizens to tell their congressional representatives to take action on
   the bills when they return to work after the November presidential
   election.

   In the Republican address, Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama - a ranking
   member on the Budget Committee - accused the Democrats of recessing
   before delivering a balanced budget plan.
   He also said criticized the president's economic policies as flawed,
   saying the Obama administration is misrepresenting its budget plan as
   reducing the debt and helping to revive the economy.
