Obama: Consumer Watchdog Protects Americans by VOA News U.S. President Barack Obama says anyone who has a question about their creditworthiness should contact the newly established independent consumer watchdog that he fought to create. The president said in his weekly address Saturday the watchdog's sole job is to protect Americans in helping them make informed financial decisions. He urged Americans to check their credit scores, a number that summarizes their credit histories, because the companies that make the calculations can make mistakes, impacting people's ability to get home loans and credit cards. Obama said consumers can also contact the watchdog if they think they are getting an unfair deal in other financial areas. He said the watchdog grew out of tough Wall Street reforms that Congress has passed. However, the president said Republicans in Congress are "waging an all-out battle to delay, defund and dismantle" the new reforms.
