January 23, 2012 VOA Asia Photo Contest VOA News Enter to win an iPod by sharing a photo that shows the essence of your community. VOA's English to Asia Service is conducting a photo contest through February 17^th, inviting listeners in Asia to share images that describe the places they come from. Believing that a picture is worth a thousand words, the producers of VOA's Crossroads Asia and Daybreak Asia radio programs are looking for photos that capture the spirit, character or essence of what your city or town is all about. Entry photos may depict an everyday scene, or a landmark. It could be something that shows the struggle of everyday life, or it may express the joy found in the simplest things. WHO MAY ENTER: The English to Asia Photo Contest is open to all non-U.S. citizens over 18-years-old residing full-time in Asia, which for the purposes of this contest is defined as encompassing the following countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma (Myanmar),Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Japan, Macau, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Philippines,South Korea, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Uzbekistan and Vietnam. In either case, the entry should include your legal name and a photo caption and contact information. For privacy purposes, you may suggest a pseudonym to hide your identity for public display. However, VOA does not guarantee anonymity for any entrants. The photo caption should include ' at minimum - the city and country where the picture was taken. There are no limits on the number of entries per person, but there may be no more than one picture per entry. Each entry must comply with the following requirements: Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted. The photograph need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable. All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 480 pixels wide and 480 pixels tall. Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. Any changes to the original photograph must be itemized, or the photograph may be judged unacceptable for entry. VOA retains the right to crop or resize photos to fit display requirements. Submitted photos will not be returned to the entrants by VOA. CONTEST PRIZES: The winner of the English to Asia Photo Contest will be determined by a panel of judges chosen by the management of VOA's English to Asia Service. The winners will be chosen on or around March 1, 2012 and notified by email. If a winner cannot be reached after repeated attempts, the judges will award the prize to an alternate recipient. The winner will receive an Apple iPod or prize of equal value. The prize will be delivered in a means determined by the Voice of America.
