                  Tropical Storm Isaac Takes Aim at Hispaniola

   Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to dump heavy rains Friday over
   Hispaniola, the island shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
   The [1]U.S. National Hurricane Center says the maximum downpour could
   be more than 50 centimeters, which could cause life-threatening flash
   floods and mudslides.
   The center says a hurricane watch is in effect for Haiti, a nation
   still recovering from a devastating 2010 earthquake.
   The center of Isaac will be near or over Hispaniola on Friday and move
   near or over southeastern Cuba on Saturday.
   A storm surge along the Hispaniola coast will raise water levels by
   more than 60 centimeters above normal tide levels.
   Organizers of next week's Republican National Convention in Florida are
   keeping a watchful eye on Isaac.
   Thousands of people are expected to attend the four-day meeting, in the
   city of Tampa.
   Forecasters say Isaac's path is uncertain at this point, but the storm
   could strike Florida as early as Monday.
