Bolt to Sprint for Unprecedented 'Triple-Double' by Mike Richman The world's fastest man is set to compete for an unprecedented "triple-double" at the London Olympics Saturday. Usain Bolt and his fellow Jamaican sprinters are seeking a win in the 4x100-meter relay, with Bolt running the anchor. A victory would follow Bolt's wins in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. He won all three races at the 2008 Beijing Games. Jamaica will face a tough U.S. squad anchored by 100-meter bronze medalist Justin Gatlin. The U.S. broke a 20-year-old national record in its heat Friday, finishing in 37.38 seconds. But that was only one-hundredth of a second faster than Jamaica, which competed without its premier sprinter, Bolt. Also Saturday, the U.S. will take on France for the gold medal in women's basketball. The U.S. has captured 40 straight Olympic games and is seeking its fifth-straight Olympic gold. The U.S. will compete for the gold medal in men's basketball when it plays Spain on Sunday. The heavily favored, star-studded U.S. squad is after its second straight Olympic title. Spain is ranked second in the world behind the U.S., and American player Andre Iguodala is not taking the Spanish lightly. "It will be a great game for us. A great obstacle ahead of us. They're a really good team, have been together awhile. They're a really good team as a unit, and we got a really good challenge ahead of us," he said. In early results Saturday, Japan beat South Korea, 3-0, for the bronze medal in women's volleyball. France's Julie Bresset capped an extraordinary year by riding to victory in the women's mountain-bike cross country. Russia's Sergey Kirdyapkin won a gold medal in the men's 50-kilometer walk, and Britain's Ed McKeever powered his way to gold in the men's 200-meter K-1 canoe sprint regatta. In the medal count, the U.S. has been pulling away from China and is nearing 100 total. Russia remains in third place and Britain in fourth. The U.S. is slightly ahead of China in gold medals. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/bolt-to-sprint-for-unprecedented-trip le-double/1484580.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/bolt-to-sprint-for-unprecedented-triple-double/1484580.html
