He urged Congress to pass the American Jobs Act, which Obama said will strengthen the U.S. economy right away. Obama said he took executive actions in recent days to help families save money by refinancing their mortgages and lowering the cost of student loans. In the Republican weekly response, Congressman Bobby Schilling of Illinois appealed to President Obama to urge Senate Democrats adopt a jobs proposal put forth by Republicans.
