A strong earthquake has hit eastern Turkey. The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 7.3 quake struck Sunday afternoon (1041 UTC) in Van province at a depth of 7.2 kilometers. Turkey's state-run Anatolian news agency says several buildings collapsed and several aftershocks have been felt. Turkey's Kandilli Observatory recorded the quake's magnitude at 6.6 and 5 kilometers deep. There is no immediate word of casualties.
