Attacks in Nigeria Leave at Least 63 Dead

   The Red Cross says at least 63 people have died in a wave of violence
   in northeast Nigeria after a series of bombings and shootings around
   the city of Damaturu.
   Armed gunmen rampaged through the town Friday night, bombing police
   stations, a bank, and several churches. Gunfire rang out through the
   night, and in the morning.
   The gunmen also attacked the nearby village of Potiskum, leaving two
   dead there, according to witnesses.
   No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Locals blame the
   Islamist sect Boko Haram, which has staged a series of attacks around
   northern Nigeria.
   Government officials have not released a statement on the incidents.
   Friday evening's attacks followed multiple bombings in the nearby city
   of Maiduguri earlier in the day. Several people were injured, but the
   death toll in that attack was unclear.
   The attacks come town days before the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, or
   the feast of sacrifice.
