Saudi Arabia says Hassan al-Khatani was "assassinated" while he was on his way to work at the consulate in Karachi. Pakistan police say gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on al-Khatani as he was driving alone in a car. They say al-Khatani worked in the consulate's security office. The motive for the assault is unclear. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack. The attack came days after two grenades were tossed at the Saudi consulate building in Karachi. No one was hurt in that attack. Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters. Follow our Middle East reports on [1]Twitter and discuss them on our [2]Facebook page.
