U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says there have been encouraging changes in Beijing's economic policies. Geithner spoke Tuesday at the end of two days of high level talks in Washington between China and the United States. The Treasury chief said the U.S. side encouraged China to do more to move from an economy based on exports to one more reliant on domestic demand. He said China has allowed its currency to rise in value, but urged Beijing to allow the currency to gain even more to reach a value consistent with the nation's strong economy. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the two sides had made progress in "candid" talks about many issues, including China's human rights record. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said the United States agreed to be fair in policies that limit exports of some high technology products to China. He also said the two days of dialogue are a success and looked forward to closer economic cooperation. .
