Kuwait Imposes Death Sentences on Convicted Spies VOA News March 29, 2011 Kuwait has sentenced three people to death on charges of spying for Iran. The sentences were imposed on Tuesday in a Kuwaiti criminal court. The French News Agency (AFP) quotes a judicial source who says the accused spies are two Iranians and a Kuwait national. Word of the alleged spy ring first surfaced last May. News reports said Kuwaiti security forces had arrested at least seven people after dismantling a spy cell that collected information on Kuwaiti and U.S. targets for Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards. The incident had strained relations between Kuwait and Iran, which denied the allegations. Criminal court verdicts in Kuwait can be appealed to the nation's supreme court.
