Images broadcast from the march showed some protesters throwing paint, glass bottles, burning flares and other objects at police. Some protesters can be seen scuffling with officers on the sidelines of the march. Organizers of the protest, the Trade Union Congress, say the clashes were isolated incidents and the main demonstration has remained peaceful. They say the protest has attracted more than 100,000 people. Police have deployed about 4,500 officers along the route to maintain order. The protesters argue the government-proposed budget cuts will hurt economic recovery and damage Britain's reputation.
