Israeli Strike on Gaza Kills Four Civilians VOA News March 22, 2011 Palestinian officials say an Israeli military strike in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday killed four people and wounded 13 others. The Israeli military confirmed the strike, saying it was in retaliation for mortar fire aimed at Israel. Israel has been under a barrage of mortar fire from Gaza in recent days. Palestinian authorities say many of the dead and wounded are young people under the age of 16. They say Israeli tank fire hit a house, and that all of those killed belonged to the same family. The Israeli ministry said in a statement that the civilian casualties were regrettable but blamed Gaza's Hamas group for launching attacks from residential areas. Earlier Tuesday, Israel launched military strikes against sites in Gaza suspected of being smuggling tunnels and weapons depots. [ Some information for this report provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.] .
