The indictment, filed Thursday in a U.S. District Court in Virginia, charges the 14 men with piracy, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and the use of firearms during a crime.   They are scheduled to make their initial court appearance Thursday in Norfolk, Virginia.  The Americans (Jean and Scott Adam, Bob Riggle and Phyllis Macay) were taken hostage south of Oman in the Arabian Sea. The military says U.S. Navy ships responded and were negotiating with the captors when the pirates shot and killed the Americans. U.S. forces then captured the pirates. This is the first time Americans were killed in a wave of hijackings by Somali pirates in recent years. The European Union's anti-piracy task force says the pirates are currently holding at least 30 vessels and more than 650 hostages. Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters. .
