June 18, 2011 Obama Offers Advise to Dads on Fatherhood VOA News U.S. President Barack Obama is celebrating Father's Day weekend in the U.S. with a reminder for dads that children want their time and unconditional love above all else. IFRAME: [1]http://www.youtube.com/embed/736bOQTEKAU?rel=0 In his weekly address Saturday, Obama said growing up without a father has encouraged him to work extra hard in doing his best to raise his daughters, Malia and Sasha. Obama says he was raised primarily by his grandparents in Hawaii, but wonders what his life would be like with a father in the home. The president says he has also learned children need consistency and discipline from parents to help them to establish their own sense of responsibility. He added, the current economic challenges has made things more difficult for some families, but he and all fathers must strive to be their best. In the Republican weekly address, Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota focused on the United States' national debt and the economy. Hoeven called on President Obama to send pending free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama to Congress for approval.
