Demonstrators gathered Thursday at several sites in Sana'a, including Sana'a University, to rally for a change in government. Hundreds of pro-government demonstrators held their own counter protest in the city. Mr. Saleh has been in power for more than 30 years. He won re-election in 2007, and a proposed constitutional amendment could allow him to stay in power when his term runs out in 2013. Earlier this week, the president proposed raising salaries for civil workers and the military and after days of anti-government protests.
