Dozens Killed in Karbala Bombings VOA News 20 January 2011 As many as 45 people have been killed in two suicide car bombings outside the Iraqi Shi'ite holy city of Karbala. Officials say the separate blasts occurred Thursday, as pilgrims were gathering for a Shi'ite religious festival. At least 130 people were injured. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Earlier Thursday, another suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives outside a police headquarters in central Diyala province, killing three people. It was the second attack in the area in as many days.  Local officials say another 30 people were injured. The attack happened just blocks from the scene of Wednesday's car bombing which targeted the headquarters of an Iraqi guard force. At least 12 people were killed in that explosion.
