Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber has killed 45 people and wounded at least 75 others in an attack outside a police station where potential recruits had gathered. The blast occurred Tuesday in the late dictator Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit.  Local police say at least 100 people had gathered to apply for a position with the Iraqi security forces. It was not immediately clear how many of the victims were police recruits or civilians. Following the attack, mosques broadcasted appeals for people to donate blood for the wounded. Recently, there have been a number of suicide bombings throughout the country as it struggles to emerge out of years of war. On Monday, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy carrying the governor of Anbar province, wounding at least six people but not injuring the politician. Last month, a double suicide bombing near the government compound in Ramadi killed at least nine people and wounded about 50 others. .
