Iran's IRNA news agency boasted of the attack Tuesday and indicated the attack claimed in the name of the Iranian Cyber Army was carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards. VOA executives said the hackers did not penetrate any of the government-funded agency's computer networks. They did gain entry to an outside computer system that operates a domain name server - a database of Internet addresses available worldwide - and redirected VOA traffic to the hackers' own site. The cyber attack began Monday evening and continued into Tuesday morning. VOA said the problem was resolved quickly once it became clear what had occurred, and that no data was lost or compromised. The hackers' message, written in broken English, appeared on VOAnews.com pages in English, Persian, Azeri, Dari, Pashtun and Urdu, and on several subdomains. In comments addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the hackers said "the Islamic world doesn't believe USA trickery," and demanded an end to alleged U.S. "interference' in Islamic countries' affairs, The Iranian government's semi-official Fars News Agency praised the attack and indicated it was retaliation for so-called "false reports" published about Iran. .
