Burma Demands Opposition Apologize for Supporting Sanctions

   VOA News  February 19, 2011

   Burma's  ruling  military has demanded that the party of pro-democracy
   leader  Aung  San  Suu Kyi apologize to the public for backing Western
   sanctions.
   A  commentary  carried in several state-controlled newspapers Saturday
   called  for the National League for Democracy to mend its ways and beg
   public  pardon for the party's calls to keep sanctions in place.  The
   article  accused the NLD of acting in its own interests at the expense
   of the public.
   Aung  San  Suu  Kyi  said  last  week  that she sees no reason to lift
   sanctions at present, and called for dialogue on the issue.
