The incident took place Friday at a coalition outpost in the Pul-e-Khumri district of Baghlan province. Officials say the coalition soldiers were working on a vehicle when they were fired at. They returned fire, critically injuring the attacker. NATO did not identify the service member, but German troops are based in northern Afghanistan. In other violence Friday, Afghan officials say at least nine people were killed and more than 30 wounded in a suicide car bombing in the eastern city of Khost. Authorities say the attacker targeted a police station near the Pakistani border, killing at least two police officers and women.
