Pro-Government Iranians Call for Death of Opposition Leaders VOA News February 18, 2011 Photo: AP Leaders of Iranian opposition, Mahdi Karroubi, right, and Mir Hossein Mousavi talk in Tehran, Iran (October 2009 file photo) Thousands of worshippers at prayer services in Tehran are chanting and calling for the execution of two Iranian opposition leaders, ahead of a pro-government rally expected Friday. The Muslim worshipers called for the death of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi, two leaders of the opposition Green Movement. Both lost their presidential bids in 2009 to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and are under house arrest. The head of Iran's judiciary, Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani, said Thursday that the government will block the opposition leaders from making statements in anti-government demonstrations planned for Sunday. Ayatollah Larijani said the government will prosecute "seditionists." Sedition is a crime punishable by death in Iran.  Opposition websites have made calls for the nationwide rallies Sunday to show support for Mousavi and Karroubi and to mourn the deaths of two people who died in Monday's anti-government protests.
