US Treasury Advises Banks to Monitor Egyptian Transactions

   The  United  States  Treasury told American banks Wednesday to monitor
   transactions  related  to  members  of ousted Egyptian president Hosni
   Mubarak's government.
   The Treasury said the banks should be looking for financial activities
   that could involve "misappropriated or diverted state assets."
   Egyptian  opposition  leaders  have  accused  members of Mr. Mubarak's
   government  of sending billions of dollars in assets overseas, and are
   demanding the money be returned.
   Egypt  asked  the  U.S. and European Union earlier this week to freeze
   the  assets  of  some senior officials.  The U.S. and EU did not name
   those on the list, but said Mr. Mubarak was not included.
   Individual  requests  were also sent to the British, French and German
   governments.
