Obama to Make Statement on Mubarak Resignation

   VOA News  February 11, 2011

   The  White House says U.S. President Barack Obama has been informed of
   Egyptian  President  Hosni  Mubarak's  resignation  and  will  make  a
   statement later Friday.

   The  president  was  informed  of  Mr. Mubarakâs decision to step down
   during  a  meeting  in  the  Oval  Office.  He then watched television
   coverage of the scene in Cairo for several minutes.

   In  a  statement late Thursday, Mr. Obama said the Egyptian government
   must  put  forward  a  credible, concrete, and unequivocal path toward
   genuine  democracy.  He  reiterated  that  the future of Egypt will be
   determined by the Egyptian people.

   The Obama administration has repeatedly said that it is looking for an
   orderly transition that leads to free and fair elections.
