Anti-government protesters across Cairo are galvanized by reports that there will be important news Thursday night. President Hosni Mubarak is expected to address the nation after a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed forces. Egyptian military officials and members of the ruling party say the president will "meet protesters' demands."   People streamed into Tahrir Square Thursday after the Egyptian military announced on state television that it supports what it said are the legitimate demands of the people.  A spokesman for the army supreme council said the council was meeting Thursday to see what measures and arrangements could be taken to safeguard the nation. It was not immediately clear what these measures could be. Officials said President Hosni Mubarak was not present at the meeting. Tens of thousands have demonstrated for 17 days calling for President Mubarak, who has led this country for nearly three decades, to step down. Cheers erupted at Tahrir Square when an army commander told demonstrators that their demands will be met today. President Mubarak was expected to address the nation in late hours.  NEW: Follow our Middle East reports on [1]Twitter and discuss them on our [2]Facebook page.
