Clinton Express Support for Honduras to Rejoin OAS VOA News April 23, 2011 Photo: AP Honduran President Porfirio Lobo (file photo) U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has told Honduran President Porfirio Lobo she supports his country's efforts to gain readmission to the Organization of American States, or OAS. State Department officials say Clinton spoke to Lobo by telephone Friday. They say the two also discussed political and citizen safety challenges in Honduras. Honduras was dropped from the OAS following the 2009 coup that sent then president Manuel Zelaya into exile in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Lobo was then elected president.
