Britain's Queen Formally Approves Prince William's Wedding

   Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has granted her formal consent to the
   wedding of her grandson Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.
   Owing to the the terms of the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, Britain's
   monarch must formally approve of the marriages of most of the
   descendants of King George II before they can wed.
   The so-called Instrument of Consent was released by Prince William's
   office Thursday and contains the Queen's signature. If consent is not
   given the marriage is considered invalid.
