Niger's Presidential Election Pushed Back

   Niger's  electoral  commission  says  it  is  delaying  the  country's
   upcoming presidential election by nearly a month.
   The commission said Tuesday that the election to restore civilian rule
   after  a  military  coup  earlier this year will now be on January 31,
   2011 instead of January 3.
   It is the second postponement for Niger's presidential election.
   In  May  a  spokesman  for  the  military  junta  set the election for
   December  26,  but  election  officials  said they needed more time to
   prepare.
   The  military  junta  came  into  power  in  February,  after  ousting
   unpopular  president  Mamadou Tandja, who had refused to leave officer
   when his term expired last year.
