Aliya Mustafina led the six-member Russian team to victory Wednesday, as it all came down to the final routine of the day. Veteran Alicia Sacramone appeared to have given the United States enough points to win with an excellent performance on the vault. But performing last, the 16-year-old Mustafina's program was good enough to give Russia an overall total of 175.397 points and the gold medal. The United States finished just two-10ths (.201) of a point behind to claim the silver (175.196), while China earned the bronze (174.781), less than half a point behind the USA. It is the first time the Russians have taken the team title since 1991, the last of a record 11 titles they won competing as the former Soviet Union.
