Nobel Peace Prize Winner Liu Xiaobos Lawyer Blocked From Leaving China

   A  lawyer  for  Nobel  Peace  Prize winner Liu Xiaobo says he has been
   barred from leaving China.

   Mo Shaoping says he and another prominent Chinese lawyer were detained
   at  Beijing's  international  airport  on  Tuesday as they prepared to
   board a flight to London. Mo, who had been invited to attend a seminar
   in  Britain,  said  he  was  told  his  trip posed a threat to China's
   national interests.

   China  was  outraged  by the awarding to the prestigious prize to Liu,
   who  is serving an 11-year prison sentence for co-authoring a tract in
   support  of  democratic  rights.  It  has  been  trying  to discourage
   prominent  figures  from  attending  the  award  ceremony  in  Oslo on
   December 10.

   A British newspaper, the Telegraph, linked the lawyers' detention to a
   visit to China by British Prime Minister David Cameron, who arrived at
   the Beijing airport with a large business delegation shortly before Mo
   was detained.
