At Least Five Killed in Iraq Bombings VOA News 28 March 2010 Iraqi police say at least five people were killed in a series of bombings Sunday in western Iraq, near the border with Syria. Investigators say the blasts in the city of Qaim wounded at least 15 people. Police say at least one bomb exploded near a home being built by a prominent Sunni militia leader who supported former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's secular Iraqiya coalition in the March 7 parliamentary elections. Several other bombs went off nearby after a crowd had gathered.  The violence comes just two days after election officials announced that Mr. Allawi's coalition won the most seats in the elections.  He edged past Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his Shi'ite-led State of Law coalition by two seats. Mr. Maliki has rejected the results. Qaim is in Anbar province, where violence has been relatively low since Sunni tribal leaders turned Islamist groups in 2006 and helped U.S. and Iraqi forces fight insurgents.
