Allawi's Coalition Wins Most Seats in Iraqi Election VOA News 26 March 2010 Full preliminary results from Iraq's parliamentary vote show the secular coalition of former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has won two more seats than Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's coalition. The preliminary tallies announced Friday show Mr. Allawi's Iraqiya coalition with 91 seats, compared to 89 seats won by Mr. Maliki's State of Law coalition. Prime Minister Maliki said Friday he will not accept the results. Trailing them for parliament's 325 seats were the Shi'ite-majority Iraqi National Alliance, with 70 seats, followed by the main Kurdish coalition, the Kurdistan Alliance, with 43. The United Nations special representative in Iraq, Ad Melkert, said the March 7 elections were credible, and he called on all parties to accept the results. About two hours before the tallies were revealed, two explosions ripped through a town in Diyala province north of Baghdad. Authorities say the blasts killed more than 40 people and wounded at least 55 others.
