Netherlands Defeats Slovakia in World Cup

   The  Netherlands  has  defeated Slovakia, 2-1, in Durban to advance to
   the World Cup quarterfinals.
   Arjen  Robben,  who  was  making  his  first  World  Cup  start  after
   recovering  from a hamstring injury, scored the only goal of the first
   half when when he fired a low shot into the net in the 18th minute. Â
   Wesley  Sneijder  scored  an  insurance goal for the Dutch in the 84th
   minute,  before  Slovakia's  Robert  Vittek  avoided  the  shutout  by
   converting a penalty kick in the 4th minute of extra time.
   Slovakia was unable to duplicate the type of attacking offense it used
   to make it to the round-of-16 with its 3-2 win over defending champion
   Italy.
