Gunmen Attack Security Building in Yemen, Kill 10 VOA News 19 June 2010 Security officials in Yemen say gunmen attacked the intelligence building in the southern port city of Aden, escaping with several detainees. Officials said the attackers fought their way into the building Saturday, killing at least 10 people, including six security officers. Officials said they believe the gunmen, armed with rifles and rocket propelled grenades, are linked to al-Qaida. Witnesses said they heard a heavy exchange of gunfire during the attack, and that smoke could be seen rising from the area. Yemen has been intensifying its campaign against al-Qaida after the group's local branch, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, claimed responsibility for the failed bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner on December 25 (Christmas Day).
