Explosions At Political Rally in Kenya Kill 3 VOA News 13 June 2010 Photo: ASSOCIATED PRESS A Kenyan lies on the stretcher at Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment after a bomb explosion in Nairobi, Kenya, Sunday, June 13, 2010. An explosion ripped through a park in Nairobi's capital during a packed political rally late Sunday, killing at least three people and wounding dozens more, officials said. Police in Kenya say two explosions have gone off at a political rally in the capital, Nairobi, killing at least three people. Officials say at least 75 others were wounded when the blasts went off at the outdoor rally in Uhuru Park, where politicians and church leaders had gathered to campaign against a proposed new constitution. It is not clear what caused the explosions. Kenyans are due to vote on a new constitution in a referendum on August 4. The new charter would shrink the Cabinet, set up a new system of parliament and give more power to regional governments. Supporters say the new laws would help reduce corruption and abuses of power. The charter is opposed by a handful of Cabinet ministers, along with some churches that dislike its language on abortion. The proposed constitution grew out of a 2008 power-sharing deal between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga that followed a disputed election. The election controversy triggered riots and ethnic violence across Kenya that killed some 1,300 people. Both the president and prime minister are supporting the proposed new constitution. Some information for this report proivided by AP, AFP and Reuters. .
