Suicide Blast Kills at Least 47 in Pakistan VOA News 09 July 2010 A Pakistani hospital guard carries an injured child to a local hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan, 09 Jul 2010 Photo: AP A Pakistani hospital guard carries an injured child to a local hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan, 09 Jul 2010 Pakistani officials say a suicide bomber has killed at least 47 people and wounded nearly 100 others in the country's northwest tribal area near the Afghan border.  Police said Friday the attacker detonated explosives outside a government office in the Yakaghund village in Pakistan's northwest Mohmand tribal region. They said the early morning blast flattened dozens of nearby buildings.  Mohmand is part of Pakistan's lawless tribal belt where Taliban and al-Qaida militants are believed to be hiding. The Pakistani army has carried out operations in Mohmand, but it has been unable to extricate the militants.  Pakistan is under pressure from the United States to go after the insurgents, who also have carried out attacks on Western forces in Afghanistan.
