Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called a meeting of the cabinet committee on security affairs Wednesday to discuss the violent demonstrations against Indian rule. Three more people were killed Tuesday when security forces in Srinagar opened fire on hundreds of rock-throwing protesters. The deaths bring the number of civilians killed during several weeks of protests to at least 15. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan. Muslim insurgents in Indian Kashmir have been fighting for independence from India or a merger with Muslim-majority Pakistan for more than 20 years.
