   The  U.S.  embassy  in France says two of its employees are undergoing
   medical  checkups  after  handling  a  suspicious  piece  of mail, but
   preliminary tests indicate the letter was not harmful.
   Embassy  spokesman  Paul  Patin  told  reporters  in Paris Friday that
   mailroom handlers identified a "suspicious letter," and that those who
   were in contact with it are being tested for poisoning.
   The  embassy  statement  says the envelope also is being analyzed by a
   laboratory.
   French authorities have been summoned to investigate the case.
   The  embassy  remained open for business and reports say there were no
   signs of heightened security.
