Obama: Financial Reform Law Key To Economic Recovery VOA News 24 July 2010 President Obama records his weekly address for 24 Jul 2010 Photo: White House - Lawrence Jackson President Obama records his weekly address for 24 Jul 2010 U.S. President Barack Obama says the financial reform bill he signed into law earlier this week is a "key pillar" in his economic plan to bring the country out of recession.  In his weekly address Saturday, Mr. Obama said the new rules require more accountability from Wall Street to Washington.  He said the law, which comprises the most sweeping set of financial regulatory reforms since the Great Depression of the 1930s, will protect Americans from the reckless behavior that sparked the economic crisis.  In the Republicans' weekly address, Representative Mike Pence said his party has better solutions to reform health care, create jobs and improve the economy. He said Republicans will work to repeal the new health care law, oppose tax hikes and fight increased government spending.  Mr. Obama said the Republicans' plans will add to the national deficit and kill jobs.  Earlier this week, House Republican leader John Boehner said millions of Americans want to know what happened to the jobs Mr. Obama promised to create.
