Strong Quake Hits Near Papua New Guinea VOA News 20 July 2010 A strong earthquake with a 6.6 magnitude struck near the coast of Papua New Guinea early Wednesday, but there was no immediate word of a tsunami or property damage. The U.S. Geological Survey, which put the initial magnitude at 6.3, said the quake struck at 5:18 am Wednesday local time. The epicenter was 130 kilometers east of Kandrian on the island of New Britain at the depth of 36 kilometers. No other details were immediately available.
