Iran Blames US For Deadly Bombings VOA News 17 July 2010 During a funeral ceremony, people pray in front of flag-draped coffins of the victims of two bomb blasts in the city of Zahedan, 940 miles (1570 kilometers) southeast of Tehran, 17 Jul 2010 Photo: AP During a funeral ceremony, people pray in front of flag-draped coffins of the victims of two bomb blasts in the city of Zahedan, 940 miles (1570 kilometers) southeast of Tehran, 17 Jul 2010 Iranian officials are blaming the United States and other Western powers for twin suicide bombings that killed at least 27 people and wounded some 270 others, even as U.S. leaders condemn the attacks.  Iran's state-run television and radio Friday quoted various national leaders as holding the U.S. responsible for two blasts Thursday outside a Shi'ite mosque in southeastern Iran.  The Sunni Muslim rebel group Jundallah claimed responsibility Friday for the bombings. Tehran has accused the United States of supporting the group in a plot to destabilize the Iranian government.  The United States has denied backing Jundallah. On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the attacks and called for those responsible to be held accountable.  Jundallah, or Soldiers of God, said the attacks were retaliation for last month's execution of its leader, Abdolmalek Rigi. The group warned of more attacks to come. The explosions occurred as worshippers gathered in the southeastern city of Zahedan to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein.
