Sudan Rebels say Ready for Temporary Cease-Fire VOA News 20 February 2010 A major Sudanese rebel group in Darfur says it is ready to agree to a temporary cease-fire with the government. A spokesman from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) said Saturday discussions with the government in the capital of neighboring Chad had resulted in a framework for future negotiations. The spokesman, Ahmed Hussein, said those issues included "wealth sharing" for Darfuris. Hussein said the details of a final peace plan would be worked out in direct negotiations with the Sudanese government. There was no immediate comment from Sudan's government. However, Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir told reporters Friday they should expect good news on the Darfur situation. Both Sudan and Chad are preparing for elections. The two countries have accused each other of arming rebels in each other's territory aimed at destabilizing the other's government. Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters. .
