Clan Fighting in Somalia Leaves 15 Dead VOA News 07 December 2010 Residents in central Somalia say fighting between rival clans has left at least 15 people dead and several others wounded. The clashes erupted late Monday in the central Mudug region, which lies near the border of semi-autonomous Puntland. Locals say most of those killed or injured were members of clan militias. Reports say the fighting between the Sa'ad and Majerteen clans was over access to land in the region. The rival groups live side by side but have a long history of fighting. Clan battles are common in Somalia, which has not had a functioning central government in nearly two decades. Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters. .
